Schwarzach, Austria
Austrian studio (HK Architekten) based in Vorarlberg and a pioneer in timber construction. Their LCT One in Dornbirn is the first hybrid timber and passive house high-rise building with a modular system, with mixed timber-concrete floor slabs enabling vertical construction with REI 90 fire resistance. The IZM (Illwerke Zentrum Montafon) in Rodund was the largest timber office building in Europe at the time, with over 10,000 m² of usable floor area, whose timber structure was assembled in just six weeks as the first commercial application of the LifeCycle Tower system.
Why we chose it
Because they turned Vorarlberg into a laboratory for high-rise timber and developed replicable modular systems with a very low footprint.
