Niamey, Níger
Studio founded in 2014 by Nigerien architect Mariam Kamara, based in Niamey (Niger). It is the author of the Hikma complex in Dandaji, which recovered a ruined mosque and converted it into a library and community centre using earth and local brick, awarded by the Holcim Foundation. Its work combines local materials, passive strategies suited to the Saharan climate and a strong social commitment, particularly to education and the presence of women in public space.
Why we chose it
Because the Hikma complex in Dandaji shows how local earth, passive climate design and community involvement generate low-impact architecture with high social value.
