A Coruña, España
Studio of Galician architect Carlos Quintáns, based in A Coruña, recognised for an austere architecture, attentive to place and material. His work includes the new fish market in Ribeira and residential and refurbishment projects in Galicia, such as a house in Paderne do Courel. Curator of the Spanish Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Biennale (awarded the Golden Lion), his work is characterised by an economy of means, reuse and the careful use of local materials such as stone and timber.
Why we chose it
Because it practises an austere, close-to-place architecture, with reuse and local materials as guiding principles of the project.
