Formentera, España
Studio founded in Formentera in 2002 by architect Marià Castelló Martínez. Its deep connection to the island guides a conscious intervention in the local context, spanning heritage, landscape, housing, public buildings and interior design. It prioritises natural materials that age in harmony with the landscape, such as iroko and pine timber in joinery and shutters, over concrete structures, and employs solutions such as sprayed natural cork and lime, which ensure breathability and a low ecological footprint. Its work Bosc d'en Pep Ferrer was a finalist for the Egurtek 2018 National Architecture Prize.
Why we chose it
Because it integrates timber, cork and lime with a radical respect for the island landscape and a low material footprint.
