Nueva York, Estados Unidos
Studio of architect Toshiko Mori, based in New York (United States). She is the author of the THREAD cultural centre and artists' residency in Sinthian (Senegal), built entirely with local materials and techniques —compressed earth, bamboo and straw— alongside master builders and villagers, with a roof that harvests rainwater. The project received an AIA Honor Award in 2017. Her practice combines material research, climate sensitivity and collaboration with communities to achieve architecture with a very low footprint and strong local roots.
Why we chose it
Because the THREAD centre in Senegal, awarded by the AIA, raises cultural architecture with local earth, bamboo and straw and rainwater harvesting.
