Ea (Natxitua), Bizkaia
Basque company leading industrialised timber construction in southern Europe. They control the whole cycle: from forest management of local woodlands (mainly Radiata Pine) to the engineering, manufacturing and assembly of CLT (cross-laminated timber) and glulam (glued laminated timber) structures. Their commitment to the local species drastically reduces the carbon footprint associated with transport compared with central European competitors.
Why we chose it
Km0 logic: for breaking the absurd inertia of importing timber from Austria or Scandinavia when the Iberian Peninsula has productive forests of its own. They have elevated local Radiata Pine to the status of a high-tech structural material, showing that "quality" can also be measured by the distance the lorry travels.
