Ecocem

GGBS and ACT technology: low-carbon cements with verified EPD from Dublin and Dunkirk.

Ecocem

Description

Independent Irish cement company founded in 2000 and specialised in low-carbon cements. It produces GGBS (ground granulated blast-furnace slag) in Dublin and other European plants: a steel industry by-product that replaces clinker and has a third-party verified cradle-to-gate EPD. Its ACT technology, with European technical approval, reduces the footprint of cement by more than 70% and will have its first commercial unit in Dunkirk. Ireland already requires low-carbon cement in public procurement, a market that Ecocem helped drive forward.

/* Veredicto editorial. «Qué mejoraríamos» se retiró de la web el 10-sep-2026 (ver lib/ficha-editorial): la ficha enseña por qué elegimos un material, no lo que le falta. El dato sigue en Airtable y sigue siendo criterio de selección. */
Why we chose it

Because for two decades it has been demonstrating that low-carbon cement is industrially and commercially viable, not a laboratory promise.

Chosen by Descarboniza. No company pays for what we say about it.
