    ROOTMAN

Thermal and acoustic insulation made from living roots: natural, incombustible and breathable panels and blocks. Patented technology with over 10 years of R&D; material selected for the UN's ECLAC building.

    Description

Rootman is a thermal and acoustic insulation material developed in Chile from a root mat: oat and barley roots grown on trays that, around ten days after sowing, form a natural, 100% biodegradable panel through patented technology. The material, free from petrochemical additives, declares a thermal conductivity of 0.034-0.036 W/mK, comparable to conventional insulation materials, an acoustic insulation of Rw 48 dB in its panel format, and outstanding fire behaviour: its fire-resistant insulation (F-90 technology, Thermoroot) takes around one hour to start burning under direct flame exposure. It is offered as the core for SIP-type panels and as insulation for walls and roofs, aimed at industrialised timber construction. Its nature-based innovation profile has earned it the backing of ECLAC (United Nations), which has trusted the material for its facilities, and growing attention from the sustainable construction press as a renewable, ultra-short-cycle alternative to synthetic insulation materials.

    Data source
