    ThermoWood®

Thermally modified timber from Finland, treated by heat and steam with no chemicals.

    Carbon negative Website
    ThermoWood®

    Description

ThermoWood is timber thermally modified in a controlled atmosphere of heat and steam (≈160–220 °C), with no added chemicals. The process darkens the tone, reduces the equilibrium moisture content and improves dimensional stability (less swelling/shrinkage) and resistance to fungi, which is why it's widely used in façades, decking and saunas. There are ranges oriented towards stability (Thermo-S) and towards durability (Thermo-D). As a trade-off, mechanical strength (bending/impact) decreases compared with the original timber, so it's prioritised for cladding and finishes rather than main structure.
