Passivhaus Institut
Darmstadt, Alemania
Independent research institute founded in 1996 by Wolfgang Feist in Darmstadt (Germany), creator and custodian of the Passivhaus standard, the world's most widespread building design system for very low energy demand. It defines the certification criteria for buildings, components (windows, heat-recovery ventilation) and professionals, and maintains the PHPP calculation software. It matters for decarbonising construction because it reduces operational heating and cooling energy by up to 90 per cent, tackling the largest source of emissions from the building stock over its service life.
