Casa de paja

Extremadura

House built using the Nebraska technique of compressed straw bales, in Extremadura. The system — load-bearing walls of rendered straw bales — provides high thermal insulation with a material that is agricultural in origin, renewable and locally sourced. It is an example of low-cost, low-carbon-footprint natural building, in which the enclosure itself both structures and insulates the house.
