Studio of architect Francis Kéré, born in Burkina Faso and winner of the 2022 Pritzker Prize, based in Berlin. His work begins with the Gando primary school, built with compressed earth blocks and community labour, and extends to facilities in Africa and Europe. He combines local materials — earth, clay, timber — passive ventilation strategies against heat, and community participation. His architecture demonstrates how modest resources and low-impact techniques can produce dignified, long-lasting buildings.
Why we chose it
Because his work in earth and community construction, recognised with the 2022 Pritzker Prize, is a global benchmark for dignified, passive, low-footprint architecture.
