Vancouver, Canadá
Studio from Vancouver (Canada) recognised for an architecture of strong material culture and mastery of timber. It is the author of the Audain Art Museum in Whistler, integrated into a forest without felling a single tree and realised with an engineered timber roof —LSL and PSL— and slatted lattices that mark out the public spaces. Awarded the Governor General's Medal and recognised by the AIA and the RIBA, its work explores structural timber, integration into the landscape and economy of materials as low-impact approaches.
Why we chose it
Because it masters structural timber and integration into the landscape, as in the Audain Art Museum, built without felling trees and with engineered timber.
