Comunidad de Madrid
Zuloark is an open architecture, urbanism and culture office founded in Madrid in 2001, which operates as a distributed collective with presence in Madrid, Berlin, Coruña, Bologna, Amsterdam, Athens and La Palma. Its professional model is deliberately fluid and collaborative: it is organised through fluid hierarchies, rotating management roles and shared authorship of projects with as many agents as possible, drawing on a wide international network of collaborators. Its activity spans architectural design, tactical and participatory urbanism, cultural programming, festival design and collective construction workshops, often linked to the activation of public space. Its work has been shown at leading institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and Matadero Madrid. To sustainable construction it brings its social dimension: architecture as a process of shared responsibility and care, where sustainability also includes how the commons are decided upon and governed.
Why we chose it
Zuloark is a Spanish pioneer in tactical and participatory architecture, demonstrating that radical reuse and democratic design generate integrated sustainability.
