Winterthur, Suiza
Vertical extension of an industrial building in Winterthur (Switzerland), completed in 2021 by baubüro in situ and built mostly with reused components: steel structure, staircases, windows and façade cladding sourced from demolitions. The insulation is straw and the finishes are clay, completing a palette of minimal impact. The project, thoroughly documented, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by around 60 per cent compared with an equivalent new build and is the European benchmark for construction with reuse.
