Kamikatsu, Japón
Waste management centre, second-hand shop and small hotel in Kamikatsu (Tokushima, Japan), completed in 2020. The village, a pioneer of the "zero waste" declaration in Japan, sorts its waste into 45 categories and recycles more than 80%. The building, shaped like a question mark, embodies that culture: a façade made up of around 700 windows donated by local residents, a structure of local cedar, and furniture and finishes made from reclaimed materials. A world reference for circular architecture built from what others throw away.
