Villasbuenas de Gata (Cáceres), España
Self-built straw bale house in Villasbuenas de Gata (Sierra de Gata, Cáceres), one of the best-known educational examples of straw construction in Spain. The straw walls, rendered with natural mortars, offer excellent insulation from a local agricultural by-product that stores carbon, while self-building reduces costs and transport. The project has served for years to spread awareness of bio-construction, showing that straw is a durable, healthy material with a minimal footprint.
