Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona), España
A development of 85 social housing units in Cornellà de Llobregat designed by Peris+Toral Arquitectes and completed in 2021, winner of the RIBA International Prize 2024. The housing is organised as a matrix of equivalent rooms around a large collective courtyard, with a locally sourced (km0) cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure. It is one of the largest public housing developments in timber in Spain: dry construction reduced timescales, waste and embodied carbon compared with a conventional concrete structure, and the timber stores CO2 throughout the building's lifetime.
