Skellefteå, Suecia
Cultural centre and 20-storey hotel in Skellefteå (Sweden), designed by White Arkitekter and completed in 2021, one of the tallest timber buildings in the world. It combines modules and solid timber structure produced with local forest, fixing large amounts of CO2 within the building itself. Powered by renewable energy and conceived with life-cycle criteria, it demonstrates that large-scale tall buildings can be built in timber with a carbon balance far lower than conventional concrete and steel towers.
