Turkana, Kenia
Information technology training campus on the shores of Lake Turkana (Kenya), completed in 2021 by Kéré Architecture. Built with rendered local quarry stone and stepped to follow the slope of the terrain, it stands out for its tall ventilation towers inspired by local termite mounds: they draw out hot air through the stack effect and bring in fresh air through low openings, cooling the workspaces without air conditioning, which is key for the computer equipment. Local materials, local labour and climate as the project's driving concept.
