Headquarters of the media group Tamedia beside the River Sihl, in Zurich, completed in 2013. Its structure uses around 2,000 m³ of spruce with a purely mechanical jointing system developed by Shigeru Ban and engineer Hermann Blumer: oval beams passing through columns and double beams, with no structural glues, nails or visible fixings, drawing on traditional Japanese carpentry. The double glazed façade acts as a thermal buffer. It is one of the works that restored credibility to timber in European office construction.
