How we chose

For service businesses there is no environmental declaration to lean on: an architecture practice has no product to declare. The criterion cannot be documentary and we don't pretend it is.

We choose on built and checkable work, on clear specialisation, and on whether the practice has left a public trace of how it works. When someone pioneered something we say so with the fact and the date, and while checking this guide we had to correct one: the house usually cited as Spain's first passive dwelling holds no official certification, and its entry now says so.

The three picks share the flaw of the whole list: the life cycle of their buildings is either unpublished or hard to find. It is written on their entries.
