Ciudad de México, México
Studio of the Mexican architect Héctor Barroso, based in Mexico City. It is known for the Entre Pinos residential complex in Valle de Bravo, built with earth blocks made from the soil excavated on the plot itself, which reduces material transport and reconnects the building with its site. His work employs earth, timber and a sober, tactile material palette, with serene, well-oriented spaces. It champions local materials, craftsmanship and a low-impact architecture with a strong sense of place.
Why we chose it
Because it builds with earth from the plot itself, reducing transport and footprint, and demonstrates the contemporary value of local materials.
