arquitectura
Ciudad de México, México
Studio founded in 2004 by Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao, based in Mexico City. It is known for its sustainable, affordable social housing model, buildable from around $8,000, which combines a block core with modules of lightweight, local materials such as timber, mud brick and rammed earth. Its practice champions material honesty — leaving the brick exposed — and adaptation to climate and context. It advocates a low-cost architecture, with modest materials and a low footprint, as an alternative to standardised housing.
Why we chose it
Because its low-cost social housing in brick, earth and timber shows that affordable, low-footprint architecture can be dignified and flexible.
