Portland, Estados Unidos
Studio based in Portland (Oregon, United States) and author of the new main terminal at Portland International Airport (PDX), opened in 2024 and considered the largest mass timber airport building in the world. Its undulating roof of over 37,000 m² uses locally sourced glue-laminated timber, with 73% FSC-certified or traceable to responsibly managed community and tribal forests. The building is fully electric and halves energy consumption per square metre. Their practice combines engineered timber, transparent supply chains and biophilic design.
Why we chose it
Because they designed the largest mass timber airport terminal in the world, with local, traceable and certified timber and a fully electric design.
