Hortus

Allschwil (Basilea), Suiza

Office building in Allschwil (Basel, Switzerland) designed by Herzog & de Meuron and completed in 2025. Its timber structure is combined with mixed timber and rammed earth floor slabs, demountable and reusable materials, organised around a large courtyard. The project, conceived to offset its embodied energy with its own photovoltaic production, proposes that the office can be regenerative: materials of biological and mineral origin without intensive processing, low embodied carbon and design for disassembly at the end of its life.
