TECLA

Massa Lombarda, Italia

3D-printed housing prototype made with local raw earth in Massa Lombarda (Italy), completed in 2021 by Mario Cucinella Architects and printer manufacturer WASP. Two connected domes of 350 layers of clay extracted from the surrounding area, printed in around 200 hours by two synchronised arms of the Crane WASP system, with barely any waste or added materials. The undulating geometry of the walls provides structural stability and thermal performance. The first house printed entirely with local earth, it explores near-zero-carbon emergency housing.
