Casa Chamboirat, designed by COVE Architectes, is a refurbishment that transforms a two-centuries-old barn into a family home in the countryside of Auvergne, France. This project deeply respects the essence and materiality of the original building, characterised by its 9-metre masonry walls and its intricate timber frame. The intervention focused on preservation, using local materials and traditional craftsmanship to achieve continuity with the original construction. The refurbishment included stabilising the walls with lime mortar and incorporating oak beams, while the insulation was discreetly integrated to keep the structure exposed.
