Rudrapur, Bangladesh
A primary school in the village of Rudrapur (Dinajpur, Bangladesh), built by hand over four months in 2005-2006 by architects, craftspeople, parents and pupils. Anna Heringer and Eike Roswag combined earth walls with straw (an improved technique based on local cob) on the ground floor with a light bamboo upper floor, on brick foundations. It received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2007 for its beauty, simplicity and cooperation between trades. It is the foundational work of contemporary earth architecture with a social vocation in South Asia.
