The municipality of Moià, 60 km from Barcelona, urgently needed to renovate its fire station, which had serious defects. In 2016, a competition was launched calling for fast, industrialised construction. The winning project proposed a modular timber construction, with a repetitive, stepped structure that gives the building a monumental character. Timber, used in both the structure and the building envelope, provides thermal and acoustic efficiency as well as low maintenance. The modular design allows for future extensions and reduces waste. Industrialisation and the use of low environmental impact glulam optimise construction times and capture CO2, highlighting its sustainability.
