DescriptionCopano is a French company from the Pays de la Loire region that manufactures cereal straw insulation panels using a stitching technique: the fibres are compressed and stitched dry and cold, without glues or additives, in a deliberately low-tech process that the firm itself presents as a pioneer in Europe. The result is a 100% plant-based panel that combines the ease of installation of industrial panels with the ecological advantages of the traditional straw bale: it makes use of an abundant, annually renewed agricultural co-product, acts as a carbon sink and is fully recyclable at the end of its service life. The panels are used as thermal and acoustic insulation in walls, partitions and roofs, providing comfort in both winter and summer, and are quick to install using a dry process. The project has been recognised in France as an award-winning circular economy operation (2023) and is supported by Bpifrance and the French straw-building network (RFCP).
