The German company KEIM Farben, founded by Adolf Wilhelm Keim in 1878, is a world pioneer in mineral silicate paints. Its paints are based on a potassium silicate binder and natural mineral pigments, so they contain no solvents, plasticisers, biocides or preservatives; they emit no odours or harmful substances and are suitable for people with allergies. The chemical reaction of the silicate creates an insoluble bond with the substrate that remains highly permeable to vapour, allowing moisture to diffuse and preventing condensation and mould; their alkalinity and fast drying inhibit algae and fungi without the need for biocides. Mineral paints offer great durability and colour stability, are cleaned with water and allow for widely spaced repainting, thereby saving resources. They are non-combustible, with a matt mineral finish of high luminosity, and are certified by natureplus, TÜV and IUG; more than 65 products hold Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver certification, and their material health reaches Gold level.
