Haus Hoinka

Pfaffenhofen (Baden-Wurtemberg), Alemania

A single-family house in Pfaffenhofen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), designed by Atelier Kaiser Shen and completed in 2023. Its timber-frame walls are insulated with 36.5-centimetre straw bales and finished with natural renders, achieving a high-performance building envelope with renewable materials that store carbon. The house demonstrates that straw construction can be contemporary, precise and replicable, with minimal embodied carbon and a compostable or recyclable end of life.
