The Arc (Green School Bali)

Gymnasium of Bali's Green School, completed in 2021 by IBUKU. A series of 14-metre-high bamboo arches spans 19 metres, braced by anticlastic gridshells of bamboo shingles curved in two directions, without steel beams: a world milestone in bamboo engineering. Beneath the shell, 760 m² of open-plan, naturally ventilated sports court. Bamboo, fast-growing and locally grown, stores carbon and confirms its potential as a large-scale structural material in the tropics.
