Ca l'Amo is a single-family house on the plain of Sant Mateu d'Albarca, in the north of Ibiza, designed by architect Marià Castelló (project 2013-2017, construction 2017-2020). Its 332 m² of built area are fragmented into five distinct volumes that engage in dialogue with the terraces and dry-stone walls of the plot: three concentrate the main domestic programme, the fourth is a shaded porch and the fifth a guest annexe with independent access. The structure is made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels left exposed on the inside, so that a single element resolves structure, envelope and finish; the exterior joinery is made of laminated timber of the same characteristics, blurring the boundary between wall and window. The project incorporates passive bioclimatic strategies of orientation and cross ventilation, and collects rainwater in a cistern of more than 200 tonnes that makes it practically self-sufficient in water, an example of lightweight low-footprint timber construction integrated into the rural Ibizan landscape.
