La Comunal

Refurbishment of a group of industrial buildings in the Sants neighbourhood (Barcelona), completed in 2020 by the cooperative Lacol as a cooperative and cultural hub. The intervention preserves the existing structures and prioritises the reuse of materials, demonstrating that refurbishment avoids most of the embodied carbon of a new build. Low-cost bioclimatic strategies, natural ventilation and soft landscaping of the communal space complete a landmark project in urban reuse and social economy.
