54 viviendas sociales en El Besòs

A block of 54 social rental homes in El Besòs (Barcelona) for the Municipal Housing Institute, by Peris+Toral, completed in 2022. A low volume and a tower are joined by a bioclimatic atrium, so every home faces two ways. Handmade, biomass-fired bricks give thermal mass to the inner void, which works as a solar collector in winter or a chimney in summer, and are laid as lattices that ventilate the homes. A ten-metre bay allows three dwelling types, all with outdoor space.
