Cristalleries Planell — centro cívico y escuela de adultos

Public facility in Les Corts (Barcelona) combining an adult education centre, a language standardisation consortium and a hostel, built behind the listed facade of the former Planell glassworks (1913). HARQUITECTES sets the programme back from the south facade to create an atrium that lights the classrooms and acts as an acoustic and thermal barrier. Ventilation works without machines: in winter fresh air is drawn pre-warmed from the atrium, and in summer it is moved by solar chimneys and the Venturi effect.
